Experiments were performed to determine if sterilizing grade cartridge filters can retain bacteria under conditions of high challenge conditions and high pressure. In all cases the sterilizing grade filters, which passed the integrity test retained all bacteria even though the differential pressures exceeded the manufacturer's recommended maximum continuous operating pressure. Under similar operating conditions 0.45 micron rated cartridges did not retain all bacteria.
