The effect of low-molecular dextran was investigated in 20 patients with transient cerebral ischaemia on the blood levels of inorganic phosphorus and lipid-bound phosphorus. The obtained results were compared with those in a control group. Low-molecular dextran produced a statistically significant fall in the serum lipid-bound phosphorus in healthy subjects and in patients with transient cerebral ischaemia but was without any effect on the serum level of inorganic phosphorus in healthy controls and patients with acute transient cerebral ischaemia.
