Flurbiprofen toxicity in a dog

A 3-year-old Yorkshire terrier developed signs of haematemesis and melena, and was mildly dehydrated, had pale mucous membranes and elevated pulse and respiration rates but was not pyrexic, 3 days after inadvertently eating six 200 mg flurbiprofen tablets. This provided a single dose of 250 mg/kg. The dog was treated with cimetidine (100 mg twice daily for 10 days) with an antiemetic and a long acting antibiotic. The dog was normal within 8 days.
