Study on house fly population and susceptibility to some insecticides in Fayoum Governorate, Egypt

The population densities of Musca domestica vicina [M. domestica domestica] were estimated in 1982 in the cities of Fayoum, Obshway and Sanoris, Egypt, using the grill method between 10.00 and 12.00 h in 3 indoor and outdoor locations. Flies were more abundant in the abattoir than in the market in Fayoum, whereas the reverse was the case in the other 2 cities. In all cities, flies were more abundant outdoors than indoors. Flies were collected from the markets and bioassayed in the laboratory for their susceptibility to bioresmethrin, dimethoate and lindane. The LD50s for these were 0.0028-0.0036, 0.0026-0.0036 and 0.021-0.034% a.i., respectively.
