Rodents in relation to cutaneous leishmaniasis in North Sinai Governorate, Egypt

Of 52 Mus musculus, 57 Rattus rattus, 4 R. norvegicus, 11 Gerbillus gerbillus, 7 G. pyramidum and 3 Meriones shawi collected in 4 areas of North Sinai, Egypt, one R. norvegicus and 2 G. pyramidum were found to have cutaneous lesions on the tail, and in the ear and nose, respectively. The isolate obtained from the lesions on one of the G. pyramidum was typed as Leishmania major.
