The seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasma gondii) was determined by ELISA in 152 randomly selected individuals (78 females and 74 males), 31 women with full term pregnancy and 38 women who had abortion or premature delivery, all from Egypt. Seropositivity to specific IgG antibodies was observed in 57.9, 58.1 and 44.7% of random, full term and aborted samples, respectively. Only 10.5, 6.5 and 23.7% were found seropositive for specific IgM, respectively. The risk of maternal transmission was very high (50%).
