Results obtained in the laboratory on the breeding of Anopheles albimanus Wiedemann, 1821 (Diptera-Culicidae) in Cuba

A study about breeding Anopheles albimanus, under laboratory conditions, was carried out. For this purpose, adult females were captured in the "Lenin Park" amusement place, at nightfall; captures were two, collecting 400 and 150 spcimens, respectively, used to set up two experiments. Results of experiments showed that females had greater lying into glass bottles than in cages, demonstrated by values obtained from chi-square test (X2) in each one of the experiments, being F1 = 45,6 and 47,9 and F2 = 33 and 12,1 resulting highly significant for p < 0,01. The highest mortality rate accounted for larvae, followed by non-eclosioned eggs and, finally, by pupas. Using parameters of temperature (27 .+-. 2.degree.C) and relative humidity (83 .+-. 5%) and exposition of adults to absolute darkness, in Cuba, viable eggs were obtained from F1 by means of the second experiment.
