The survival of fungal elements of the living vaccine against cattle trichophytosis after the application in guinea pig muscle tissue and the tissue reaction against vaccine were observed. Four types of the vaccine were used throughout the experiment: (1) Lyophilized vaccine against cattle trichophytosis (BIOVE-TA, Ivanovice na IIane, Czechoslovakia), containing hyphal fragments and conidia of the virulent strain CCM E-650 Trichophyton verrucosum; (2) its microconidial fraction; (3) its mycelial fraction; and (4) the newly developed avirulent vaccine containing hyphae and conidia of the avirulent strain TV-M-9A (= CCM F-751) Trichophyton verrucosum. Vaccine strains were isolated from the site of intramuscular application and cultivated on agar medium. The strain CCM E-650 survived in guinea pig tissue for 10 days. The microconidial fractions of that strain and the avirulent strain TV-M-9A survived in muscle tissue for 5 days. The spreeding of the fungus from the site of vaccine deposit was not observed. The used vaccines induced a similar histological picture: foci of confluent inflammation at the site of inoculum deposit with central abscess formation, and with a productive granulation tissue at the periphery with various degrees of persistence and/or disintegration of fungal elements.
