The author examined in 152 nonselected cases the time elapsing between the discontinuance of the consumption of different contraceptive tablets-for wanted pregnancy- and recurrence of fertility. Fertility was assessed on the basis of the determination of ovulation, cessation of menstruation and diagnosis of pregnancy. By analysing the cause of cessation of menstruation post-pill amenorrhoeas were also recognized and the occasionally occurring subfertility cases which were not attributable to the tablet. It has been observed that regeneration is more rapid after the use of biphasic tablet, ovulation recurs within a shorter period and post-pill amenorrhoea doses not occur. It is advisable to call the attention of the women to the above mentioned properties of monophasic oral contracetives in advance. Further studies are needed to make clear the linear correlation between recurrent fertility and the dose and duration of treatment of monophasic tablets.
