Hyperprolactinaemia in women leads to amenorrhoea, galactorrhoea and sterility. Bromocriptine and other drugs usually cause return of fertility and alleviation of symptoms. After demonstration of hyperprolactinaemia its cause must be elucidated and then appropriate treatment should be started. The attention of the hypophysis including polytomography, and in case of tumour demonstration, computer tomography and pneumoencephalography should be envisaged. Surgical treatment is supplemented with radiotherapy and in case of incomplete tumor removal, with pharmacological treatment. The use of bromocriptine for reducing tumour size is presently studied and seems to be encouraging.
