Protein, fat, lactose, Ca, P, Na, K, Mg, Zn and Fe were estimated in breast milk samples collected on the fifth day postpartum from 37 white and 84 Bantu women. No significant differences were found when the ingredients were tested individually, but when they were tested collectively by Hotelling's T2-test the 2 population groups were significantly different, variation in Ca being the most important factor.
