Recent research in Kwale District, Kenya, to determine the nutritional benefits resulting from metrifonate treatment of primary school children with light or moderate Schistosoma haematobium infections, is summarized. Treated children had significantlty better growth and increased haemoglobin levels after 6 months compared with untreated controls, and showed improved physical fitness.
