The auther studied the electrophysiological characteristic of EER (Electrically Evoked Response), using albino rabbits. A special designed contact lens to stimulate the eye was used, which consists in two electrodes; one is contacted to the cornea and the other is to the lid. The EER wave derived from the visual cortex was recorded through the electrodes on the dura overlying with visual cortex. The results were as follows: 1) The EER wave of rabbits consists of a primary positive wave which has two peaks latency, followed by a negative slow wave. 2) The negative slow wave is considered to derive from the postsynaptic component of the cerebral cortex surface. 3) Not only the threshold value of the positive wave, but also its shortest amplitude during the peak latency between reactions obtained by a certain supraliminal stimulus, is concluded to be useful as the EER parameters for rabbits. 4) The EER recorded from the visual area of the same side as the stimulated eye showed lower amplitude than that of the opposite side. The results of this study also suggest that most parts of optic chiasm consist of descussated fibers.
