In order to determine the possible clinical of the optic nerve was studied in albino rats. Direct current or voltage stimulation of the optic nerve was performed after i.p. anesthesia; optical cortex evoked responses were recorded by polaroids. After unilateral or bilateral enucleation, the remaining optic nerves received the same stimulation and EER was compared. The light-sensitive prosthesis was used as a stimulator and the above procedure was repeated. After electrical simulation 4 or 5 peaks were gained within 20 ms in optical evoked responses. A similar pattern of EER was gained 5 h after enucleation. There was no change of EER pattern when using the light-sensitive prosthesis as stimulator.
