In 28 patients suffering from pigmentry retinal dystrophy the electroretinograms to pattern stimulation (PERG) were recorded with a silver-cup electrode placed on the center of the lower eyelid-skin referred to an electrode on the earlobe. Results were compared with the responses to flash stimulation (FERG) and pattern VECPs. None of patients showed normal FERGs. In 56 eyes 20 showed the subnormal type FERGs. The PERG was recordable from those 28 eyes. In the remaining 36 eyes with a flat type FERG, 8 eyes showed clear PERGs. Further, the PERG was obtainable in all cases with a normal VECP. Peak latency of the first positive component of PERGs was found to be prolonged in patients. There was a tendency that PERGs were recordable in the patients whose visual acuity and central visual field were relatively preserved.
