Fluorinated phenylethylamines: synthesis and limitations of various fluorinating methods

The synthesis of title products (Z-Ph-CH(X)-CH2-Y, Y = Cl, Br or NC5H10) having fluorine atom at benzylic position (X = F) has been realized through 3 fluorinating methods, using hydrogen-pyridine solution (Olah's reagent), chlorotrifluoroethane-diethylamine (Yarovenko's reagent) and phenyltrifluorophosphine. The scope and limitations of these fluorinating reactions were in the dependance of some principal parameters: molecular electronic and steric dissymetry, nature of substituents,..Physical properties, 1H and 19F nmr characteristics of the titled compounds were reported.
