The morphology and function of the healthy spleen and of the spleen in malaria are described. The diseases associated with splenic enlargement, the differential diagnosis of splenomegalies of different aetiologies, the role of spleen examinations in malaria action programmes, rupture of the spleen, spleen and liver enlargement in malaria and congenital malarial splenomegaly are considered under separate headings.
