The effect of nifedipine, a blocker of the calcium channel, was studied on post-histamine bronchospasm in asthmatic patients. The studied material included two groups of patients: group I-10 patients treated successfully with disodium cromoglycate (Intal) (responders), group II-10 patients not responding to Intal (non-responders). Nifedipine reduced the reaction to inhaled histamine in most cases but not in all. No difference was found in the effectiveness of nifedipine between responders and non-responders of Intal.
