Document Number: 272639
The paper examines the effects of various potential government strategies on levels of employment, output and wage rates in rural and urban areas of Bangladesh and on rural-to-urban migrations. It develops policy simulations within the framework of an econometric model. It is concluded that increasing economic opportunities in the rural sector through overall rural development should help avoid the high social cost of rural migration.
