Rural-urban migration and urbanization in Bangladesh

Rural-urban migration was found to be the principal factor in the accelerated urbanization of Bangladesh in 1961-74. Gross disparities in socioeconomic opportunity between rural and urban areas encouraged large flows of migrants from rural areas and small towns to the large cities. Implications of the recent urbanization are discussed.
