The clinical picture, diagnosis, and microsurgical treatment of giant gliomas of the chiasm and optic nerves in 22 children are discussed. The use of the microsurgical method for removal of the tumors made it possible to expand the range of indications for the operation and increase the radical character of interventions in tumors which were considered inoperable previously. The preoperative lethality markedly reduced: among 14 patients who underwent operation one died.
