Successful treatment of a case of histoplasmosis africana with miconazole (daktarin)

The case of a patient with generalized adenopathies, sometimes supurant adenopathies, produce by Histoplasma duboisii, is presented. The patient was submitted to treatment with amphotericin B and presented several manifestations of intolerance: 40.degree. C fever, chills, cephalgia, vomiting, phlebitis, anemia and increased urea and creatinine, without avoiding the onset of new supurant adenopathies. In opposition, a total dose of 15,6 g of miconazole was administered in 36 days, and tolerance was excellent. Adenopathies disappeared and the patient's weight gain 15 pounds. Neither anemia nor nitrogenous retention was developed. The patient presented discrete, generalized pruritus, disappearing when the drug was suppressed.
