Industrial methods are suggested for isolating .beta.-galactosidase from E. coli. The method involves precipitation by organic solvents-acetone (the ratio of the culture fluid and precipitant volumes is 1:4), ethanol (1:3), isopropanol (1:3). The maximal for the given methods 5-fold purification is obtained with precipitation of the enzyme from the culture fluid by three volumes of isopropanol. The chemical composition of .beta.-galactosidase preparations is studied. The .beta.-galactoside preparation do not possess foreign enzymic activities (lipolytic, amylolytic, invertase and proteolytic).
