A case is reported in a 23-yr-old pregnant woman who presented with extensive skin lesions. Despite a positive sputum culture for Blastomyces dermatitidis, there were no respiratory symptoms. The patient's infant died 3 wks after birth with diffuse pulmonary blastomycosis [Watts, E.A. et al. (1983) Pediatric Infectious Disease 2, 308-310]. The patient's skin lesions responded dramatically to ketoconazole (400 mg/d for approx. 38 wks). A patient with disseminated blastomycosis gave birth to an infant who died 3 weeks later of diffuse pulmonary blastomycosis. The infant most likely acquired the disease through intrauterine transmission. The patient's extensive skin lesions responded dramatically to ketoconazole.AS/R.J. Hay.
