Document Number: 270356
A brief report is given of a fair held in Sept. 1990 to commemorate the awarding of Appellation d'Origine status to Chabichou, a goat milk cheese manufactured in the Poitou-Charentes region of France. Other promotional activities planned for 1990 included a Paris press conference and a display at the SIAL agricultural exhibition, also in Paris. Chabichou cheese must be manufactured from fresh (raw or heat-treated) goat milk and must undergo 10 days' ripening after renneting. It is moulded in the shape of a tapered cylinder, approx. 60 mm in diam. and 65-160 mm high. The designated Appellation d'Origine areas are two-thirds of Vienne, the Eastern half of Deux-Sevres and the North of Charente.
