Features of the growth of a culture and ultrastructure of Staphylococcus aureus 209 P cells under the effect of novoimanine

Novoimanine, an antibiotic, in the subbacteriostatic concentration (0.3 .mu.g/ml) induces the development retardation and growth rate decrease of the Staphylococcus aureus 209 P culture, thinning of the cell wall, disturbance of the cell septation and activation of autolytic processes. The higher concentrations of novoimanine evoked still more pronounced destructive changes. The cells of resistant Staphylococcus biovariant are characterized by the thickened wall and higher activity of division. However, the development retardation, a decrease in the specific growth rate of the culture and biomass accumulation level are considerable.
