The first article by the GFR Minister of Agriculture discusses the costs of the EC agricultural market, the political and economic reasons for it and its effects. Tables are used to show degree of self sufficiency and the financial help to farmers and other rural activities. Tangermann disagrees with this defensive approach and points out the need for positive reforms both in EC exchange rates and in bringing agricultural prices more in line with the market. The final five short papers discuss particular aspects of EC and GDR agricultural policies.
