Causes of recurrent symptoms after aortocoronary bypass surgery

Patients (34) who had recurrent angina or exertional dyspnea after aortocoronary bypass surgery were evaluated. Coronary angiographic and electrocardiographic findings were analyzed in these patients, and left ventricular function and coronary sinus blood flow measurements were performed at rest and during exercise. Coronary angiography after administration of ergonovine was performed in 6 patients. Ambulatory ECG analysis was performed in 1 patient. Recurrent anginas in 25 patients were caused by residual stenotic lesions of cornary arteries after the operations. Recurrent anginas in 4 patients were caused by arterial spasms. Exertional dyspnea in 4 patients was caused by reduced left ventricular compliance due to previous myocardial infarctions.
