The morphology of nucleated cells in the peripheral blood of rats after single dose irradiation with a dose of 5.5 Gy was followed during 28 days after irradiation. During profound agranulocytopenia and granulocytopenia the number of lymphocyte-like mononuclear cells was increased from the days 7-10 after irradiation and the number of monocyte-like mononuclear cells increased from day 14. The cell population discussed in the paper differed markedly from typical lymphocytes and monocytes in particular cytomorphologic parameters.
