In laboratory studies on material collected in the field in southern Manitoba, diapause occurred in larvae of Aedes hendersoni and A. triseriatus from field-collected eggs when reared in April-May at 20 degrees C and LD 8:16; diapause did not occur in larvae from laboratory colonies. Up to 89.2% of the larvae of A. triseriatus and up to 33.3% of those of A. hendersoni entered diapause. This is the farthest north that larval diapause has been demonstrated in A. triseriatus, and appears to be the first time such diapause has been demonstrated in A. hendersoni.
