Binucleated turkey red blood cells (B.R.B.C. s), inherited as an autosomal recessive gene (bn), were studied. The gene was first expressed 1-2 days after hatching with the appearance of B.R.B.C. s and other abnormal red blood cells (R.B.C. s) in bone marrow. About 1 day later, abnormal R.B.C. s were found in the peripheral blood. An increasing percentage of B.R.B.C. s appeared in the peripheral circulation with advancing age, with a peak of 7% at 6 wk of age.
