Level of plasma fibronectin in patients with hepatic cirrhosis. its relation to coagulation factor V

The level of plasma fibronectin (FN) was measured in 45 patients with hepatic cirrhosis. Patients were divided in two groups according to whether they had shown or not features of decompensation. The study showed that plasma FN level was lower (p < 0.001) in patients who had shown episodes of decompensation. Plasma FN levels are directly correlated with coagulation factor V; it is considered, therefore, that the measurement of that glycoprotein might be used as a parameter for the evaluation of hepatic function in decompensated cirrhosis. The possible relationship between low plasma FN levels and conditions associated to these patients is discussed.
