The degradation of 200 mg choline per kg body-weight daily, given to male weanling Holtzman rats by intragastric tube, was studied by estimation of total trimethylamine in urine when coprophagy was prevented or rats were given 0.1% penicillin, 0.1% chlortetracycline (CTC), 2% phthalylsulphathioazole (PST) or combinations of penicillin or CTC with PST in the diet. Excretion of trimethylamine was decreased by prevention of coprophagy, by CTC or PST and, to a greater extent, by CTC with PST.
