After a short survey on the historical development of the endoscopy of the paranasal sinus, the operating set with its accessories are explained. Patients (A29) underwent endoscopy of the maxillary sinus in the Clinic of Otorhinolaryngology of the Karl-Marx-University Leipzig [East Germany] during the period of 1978 to July 31, 1983. These cases were evaluated by different criteria. The mode of anesthesia is explained, the antroscopy findings of the optic-sinuscopic picture are compared with those of the roentgenogram and the various accesses enabling the endoscopy of the maxillary sinus, including their special characteristics are explained. The endoscopy of the paranasal sinus is an essential completion with the diagnostics and therapy of these affections, since operations to a great extent or protracted irrigations can frequently be avoided.
