Effect of ambient temperature on gastric secretion and food intake in the rat

In Sprague-Dawley rats exposed to 5 degrees , 15o, 25o and 35oC for 5 days food intake was measured daily during the first 4 days; on the 5th day gastric secretion was measured by pyloric ligation after a 24-h fast. An inverse relation was found for both gastric secretion and food intake as a function of ambient temperature. The calculated correlation coefficient of gastric acid output as a function of food intake was 0.88.
