Food intake patterns of gastric bypass patients

Records of food intake and biochemical measures of nutritional state were evaluated for a group of obese patients before and after gastric bypass surgery. Findings of significance included: decrease in weight, decrease of intakes of energy, protein, fat, cholesterol, carbohydrate, iron and vitamin A. Changes after operation in biochemical measures which indicate nutritional state were: negative nitrogen balance, decrease in serum lipid and below-normal serum vitamin A values. No major food habit change was noted. However, several changes in food preferences were observed.
