The antipyretic effect of Naprosyn syrup (Alkaloida, Tiszavasvari) has been studied in febrile children of 3-13 years of age. It has been observed that a single dose (7.5 mg/kg) of Naprosyn syrup (containing 25 mg naproxen per ml) has a definite antipyretic effect which lasts for 12 hours, and the long-term use of the drug (in daily 10 mg/kg doses distributed into two equal portions) is also useful for reducing fever of medium severity (lower than 39.degree. C) caused by infections. The antipyretic effect was significant in both groups and was identical with the similar effect of salicylates. Unwanted effect was not observed. Naprosyn possessing also antiphlogistic effect seems to be a promising antipyretic for alternative use in paediatric pharmacotherapy.
