The phosphomolybdate complex of inorganic phosphate formed in the presence of borate is reduced with ascorbic acid. The resulting suspension is made soluble with carbonate and the absorbance is measured at 720 rm. The method was applied directly to serum and dilute urine and was also used to estimate acid and alkaline phosphatase in serum. Citrate, oxalate, mannitol, F-and NO2-did not interfere.
