One steroidal saponin from Agave cantala rhizomes and 3 from Asparagus curillus (1 in fruits, 2 in roots) were tested in vitro; two of these were also tested in vivo. All 3 compounds from A. curillus showed cell growth inhibiting activity, and that from the fruits was significantly toxic in vivo when tested on tumours in mice.
