Rockogenin formation during the processing of Agave sisalana leaves for hecogenin

The routine analysis of crude sapogenin concentrates known as "coffee grounds" produced during large-scale hecogenin production showed, in some samples from Haiti, Tanzania and Kenya, variable amounts of an identified sapogenin which was sometimes present in greater amounts than hecogenin. This compound was identified as rockogenin. The compound is probably the result of enzymatic transformation of hecogenin.
