The effect of lithium salt on the ultrastructural appearance and certain histochemical reactions in rat cardiac muscle

It is believed that during lithium administration its therapeutic effect is achieved at its concentration in blood serum from 0.6-1.2 mmol/l while its toxic action begins beyond the values 1.8-2.0 mmol/l. Consequently, during our experiments, the ultrastructural image and selected histochemical reactions have been examined during the administration of therapeutic and toxic doses of lithium. It has been stated that lithium administered for 14 days at therapeutic doses shows inductive action, while if administered at toxic dose it exhibits strong noxious properties.
