Binding of lead to plasma and erythrocytes--an in vitro experiment

Lead concentrations in plasma and erythrocytes showed different patterns of increase upon the addition of lead at 10 to 500 .mu.g/dl. In the case of plasma, the increase remained at 15.0 .+-. 0.46 .mu.g/dl above 300 .mu.g/dl. In the case of erythrocytes, the increase was continuous. The ratio of plasma to erythrocytes was almost constant, 0.04. The mean binding rate of lead to plasma was 3.8 .+-. 0.62% (n = 30) and that to erythrocytes was 84.1 .+-. 6.6% (n = 30).
