In the present study, an attempt is made to study the fertility patterns of various population groups from the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The relationship between fertility and ecological, biological and socio-economic factors an highlighted. The fact that fertility behaviour and gender inequality have a strong relationship is also emphasized. The various population groups of the state show differental fertility as a result of their diverse development profiles.
