The results of two extensive shield surveys, including local interactions and interviews revealed that the following 32 species of mammals, under 29 genera, 16 families and 7 orders have been sighted and/or recorded from Johar (Gori) valley. A systematic account of these 32 species of mammals along with their common name, first reference, type locality, and distribution in India is given. Sightings/locality record for each species in the Johar valley and conservation status of threatened species has also been dealt below. The systematic account is followed after Wilson and Reeder (1992) and Alfred et al. (2002).
