Nine hundred fifty two Mahars were studied for the prevalence of A B O blood group gene HbS gene and G6PD gene in their community. A highly significant prevalence of blood group 'B' gene, HbS gene and G6PD gene was observed in this community. The prevalence of HbS and G6PD deficiency in blood group 'B' subjects were also significant as compared to prevalence of same genetic markers in individuals other than blood 'B'. It is believed that, the expression of such high frequency of these genetic markers in this community is related to chromosomal abnormality.
