The chemical stability of six anthracycline cytostatics has been studied in four different, commonly used, infusion fluids. Stability was determined with the use of high performance liquid chromatography. All compounds tested appeared to be stable in 5% dextrose and 3.3% dextrose-0.3% sodium chloride solutions, during a 28 days' incubation period at 25.degree. C in the dark. When doxorubicin and its 4'-cogeners are stored in Lactated Ringer's or 0.9% sodium chloride injection considerable degradation occurs. t90 values are presented. Degradation products could be traced by means of thin layer chromatography. Daunorubicin and 4-demethoxy-daunorubicin are apparently stable in Lactated Ringer's and 0.9% sodium chloride injection.
