A case in a 56-yr-old man is reported. During progressive withdrawal of prednisone he presented mild febrile peaks and frequent cough. Chest X-ray showed bilateral, confluent, nodular pulmonary infiltrations. Broad-spectrum antibiotics had no effect. Aspergillus fumigatus was isolated from a bronchial biopsy specimen. Treatment with amphotericin B was initiated but the patient died on the 4th day. No autopsy was performed.
