Pharmacokinetics of ibuprofen microincapsulated granules

Two new granule preparations of ibuprofen were compared in a cross-over double-blind single dose pharmacokinetic study. Eight healthy volunteers (4M, 4F), mean age 23 years, were alternatively given the two 600 mg granule preparations in a randomized sequence. The differences between formulations were not statistically significant except for t1/2 which showed a slight clinically not important increase with the microincapsulated granules. The mean relative bioavailability of the microincapsulated versus resinated granules was 93.4%. The gastroresistance of the microincapsulated formulation represents a favourable theoretical feature for a further improvement of ibuprofen safety.
