Phenylbutazone was proven in a clinico-pharmacological study in comparison to a combination of acetylosalicylic acid and ascorbic acid to prevent or inhibit edema after ambulatory dental surgery. Younger patients with dento-surgical indication and without other clinically important pathological signs were given the various medications randomly. The therapeutic effects were verified by measurements of stomatological important point distances, of the temperature in the wound region and by para-clinical paramaters. Phenylbutazone seems to be better in comparison to the applied combination. Both medications are profitable to patients by far more than the placebo medication. The short-time application of phenylbutazone does not lead to complications, as it can be shown in view of the laboratory results. With contra-indications the application of the combination of acetylosalicyclic acid and ascorbic acid is advantageous.
