The anti-edematous action of the hexane extract of S. repens drupes in animal pharmacology was demonstrated. The plant extract decreased histamine-, 48/80[p-methoxy-N-methylphenethylamine formaldehyde condensation product]- and dextran-induced capillary permeability, dextran-generalized edema, IgE-dependent passive cutaneous anaphylaxis in rats, centrifugation-induced tail edema in mice and UV-erythema in guinea-pigs. It showed no action on serotonin- and bradykinin-induced wheals in rats. The anti-edematous action was also found in the adrenalectomized rat.
